Drucker Diagnostics’ new 500-ton Sumitomo Demag press expands our in-house injection molding capabilities for large, high-precision components.

At Drucker Diagnostics, we’re always looking for ways to improve our products and manufacturing processes. With the addition of our new 500-ton injection molding press, we’re able to expand our production capabilities and refine the design of our centrifuges to deliver faster, more reliable results for the patients and healthcare professionals who depend on them.

Lighter Materials for a More Modern Design

Until recently, Drucker’s largest press was a 350-ton machine, which limited the size and volume of parts we could produce in-house. The new 500-ton press allows us to take on bigger, more complex molding projects while still maintaining the quality and precision that set our products apart from competitors.

One of the biggest advantages has been the ability to convert metal components into modern, durable plastic parts. “This investment is really about growth and change,” said Brian Shaffer, VP of Operations at Drucker Diagnostics. “We’re doing a lot of conversions from aluminum and metal to plastic to make the products more modern and sleek.”

Traditionally, our larger, high-capacity centrifuges have used metal cabinets, which add weight and can be more challenging to manufacture efficiently. By transitioning to high-strength plastic, we’re not only making our centrifuges lighter and easier to move around the lab, but we’re also streamlining production and maintaining competitive costs.

Faster Lead Times, Reliable Supply

In today’s market, long lead times and supply chain disruptions are becoming the norm for many centrifuge manufacturers. Because we mold many of our own parts—including centrifuge cabinets, tube holders, and key internal components—we don’t have to rely on unpredictable third-party suppliers. This allows us to maintain faster lead times and guarantee consistent quality across every unit we produce.

The new 500-ton press is a critical part of this strategy. It expands our ability to produce larger and more complex plastic components in-house, reducing our dependence on external vendors and giving us even greater control over our supply chain. As a result, our customers can count on us for reliable, on-time deliveries without the delays that are frustrating many labs and hospitals today.

Creating Valuable Partnerships

While our primary focus remains on centrifuges, the new press also enhances our ability to serve other industries and contract manufacturing clients. Previously, our 350-ton press was at capacity, making it difficult to take on additional molding projects for external partners. Now, with the added flexibility of the 500-ton press, we can support that need high-quality plastic molding solutions.

One example of this expanded capability is our work on the Phothera light box, a medical device used in the treatment of psoriasis. The size and complexity of this component made it a perfect fit for our new press, showcasing our ability to mold large, precision-engineered plastic parts for specialized applications.

Investing in Our Patients

At Drucker Diagnostics, every investment we make is driven by our mission to improve patient outcomes. By bringing more production in-house, we’re reducing lead times, increasing product consistency, and making centrifuges that are lighter, more durable, and easier to use. These advancements translate directly to a more efficient workflow for healthcare professionals and faster, more accurate results for patients who depend on timely diagnostics.

“Drucker has built its reputation on innovation and reliability,” said Tom Mallison, Vice President of Drucker Diagnostics. “But we aren’t just investing in a new press. It’s about investing in our patients. By improving our manufacturing process, we’re ensuring that every centrifuge we produce contributes to safer, healthier, and more productive lives.”
