TrueBond Duet vs. StatSpin VT: Which Veterinary Centrifuge Is Right for Your Practice?
Published April 9, 2026If your clinic is evaluating compact, high-speed centrifuges for blood work, hematocrit readings, and urine sediment, the TrueBond Duet and Beckman Coulter StatSpin VT are closely matched on paper. Same speed ceiling. Same rotor configuration. Same number of preset cycles. The differences that matter are in warranty, support, and what happens after the sale.
TLDR
- TrueBond Duet and the StatSpin VT reach the same max speed (15,800 RPM / 13,700 xg) and share the same 2-place tube rotor and 12-place microhematocrit rotor configuration
- TrueBond Duet carries a 2-year warranty with a calibration guarantee and extended warranty options available, the StatSpin VT’s current documentation includes no warranty terms
- TrueBond Duet is designed, built, and supported in the USA with direct manufacturer access; the StatSpin VT is distributed through a third-party intermediary for U.S. veterinary accounts
- All Drucker centrifuges are available for a free 30-day evaluation
What is the TrueBond Duet?
The TrueBond Duet is Drucker Diagnostics’ most compact centrifuge for animal health professionals. It ships with two rotors—a 2-place fixed angle rotor for blood and urine microtubes, and a horizontal microhematocrit rotor for packed cell volume testing—covering the full range of routine veterinary centrifuge applications in a 7 x 7 x 7 inch footprint. Like all TrueBond centrifuges, it comes ready to run with all accessories included and is backed by direct U.S.-based support.
What is the StatSpin VT?
The StatSpin VT is Beckman Coulter’s dedicated veterinary centrifuge, a compact, high-speed unit built around rapid, small-volume spins with the same two-rotor configuration: an RT12 tube rotor for blood and urine, and an RH12 microhematocrit rotor for packed cell volume. It reaches the same peak speeds as the Duet and uses a nearly identical 5-setting preset interface. In the U.S., the StatSpin VT is distributed for veterinary accounts through HemoCue America, not directly through Beckman Coulter.

Base SSVT ships without rotors; SSVT-1 bundle includes both RT12 and RH12. *The August 2025 revision of the StatSpin VT Instructions for Use removed the limited warranty section.
Are the speeds really the same?
Yes. Both units top out at 15,800 RPM. For microhematocrit the max RCF is 13,700 xg on both; for the 1.5–2 mL tube rotor both reach 12,000 ×g. The preset cycle structure is identical — the same five application settings at the same speeds and times. The only difference is display format: the Duet shows times in minutes and seconds (30 sec, 1.5 min, 2.5 min) while the StatSpin VT displays them in seconds (30 sec, 90 sec, 150 sec). The specs are identical.
This is worth stating plainly because it changes the nature of the comparison. The Duet isn’t a compromise or a slower alternative, it matches the StatSpin VT on every performance specification. The decision comes down to what surrounds the centrifuge: warranty coverage, rotor longevity, support access, and purchase confidence.
What about rotor replacement?
This is one of the sharpest practical differences between the two platforms. Beckman Coulter’s own documentation specifies mandatory replacement intervals for both StatSpin VT rotors. The RT12 tube rotor and shield should be replaced after approximately 3,600 cycles (roughly 18 months at 10 cycles per day), and the RH12 microhematocrit rotor after approximately 2,600 cycles, or about 12 months at the same pace. Those are recurring costs and maintenance commitments built into the ownership experience.
TrueBond Duet rotors carry a lifetime warranty. There’s no replacement schedule, no cycle counting, and no recurring rotor cost to budget for.
What are the warranty differences?
TrueBond Duet carries a 2-year overall warranty with a calibration guarantee, plus a lifetime warranty on all rotors. TrueBond Duet also offers extended warranty options. That’s the full package, including unit, calibration, and rotors, covered from day one with no fine print around component-level exclusions.
The StatSpin VT’s current Instructions for Use no longer includes warranty terms. The limited warranty section was removed in the most recent revision. What warranty coverage applies, if any, would need to be confirmed directly with HemoCue America as the U.S. veterinary distributor.
How does support work for each?
TrueBond Duet is designed, built, and supported by Drucker Diagnostics in Pennsylvania. When something needs attention, you’re calling the manufacturer directly. Drucker Diagnostics is happy to help whether you purchased direct or through a distributor. There is no routing through a separate service organization, and no ambiguity about support.
The StatSpin VT reaches U.S. veterinary accounts through HemoCue America, which distributes the product on behalf of Beckman Coulter. Service requests go to Beckman Coulter Customer Support, but the distributor layer adds a step to every interaction. For a busy clinic that needs a fast answer, the direct manufacturer relationship matters.
Does the StatSpin VT come ready to use?
It depends on which version you order. The base SSVT ships without rotors. The unit can’t spin a single sample until you source and purchase the RT12 and RH12 separately. The SSVT-1 bundle includes both rotors. TrueBond Duet ships complete in every configuration: both rotors, all accessories, ready to run on day one.
Can I try before I buy?
All Drucker centrifuges, including the TrueBond Duet, are available for a free 30-day evaluation. You can run the centrifuge in your actual clinic environment before committing to a purchase. Beckman Coulter does not offer an equivalent evaluation program for the StatSpin VT.
Why do veterinary practices choose TrueBond Duet over the StatSpin VT?
Matched performance, no tradeoffs. The Duet reaches the same peak speed and RCF as the StatSpin VT, with identical preset cycles. It’s a drop-in replacement. Switching doesn’t mean giving anything up on the spec sheet.
Lifetime rotor warranty. The StatSpin VT’s rotors carry mandatory replacement schedules and no warranty coverage. TrueBond Duet rotors are covered for life.
2-year warranty with calibration guarantee. Full unit coverage, documented and included. The StatSpin VT’s current documentation includes no warranty terms.
Ready to run on day one. Both rotors included. No separate purchases, no compatibility research before the first spin.
Direct manufacturer support. Drucker Diagnostics in Pennsylvania picks up the phone. No distributor intermediary.
Free 30-day evaluation. Try it in your clinic before you buy. The StatSpin VT offers no equivalent program.
